Dr. Michael Galvin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Behavioral Health Science and Practice at the 黑料老司机. Dr. Galvin is a mental health researcher and psychotherapist (LICSW) with a PhD in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis. Michael has a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN and master鈥檚 degrees in Public Health and Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis.
Dr. Galvin鈥檚 primary research interests center on mental health and the role that one鈥檚 environment, culture, and belief systems play in mental illness and treatment. In particular, his work focuses on elucidating cultural models of mental illness and exploring relationships to pathways to care, with the goal of improving cultural adaptation of mental health interventions and boosting access to allopathic services.
After completing his dissertation research at the first mental health clinic in northern Haiti, Dr. Galvin completed a NIH Fogarty Global Health Post-Doctoral Fellowship through Harvard University at the Health Economics and Epidemiology Research Office (HE2RO) at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. Following this, Dr. Galvin was a T32 Global Psychiatry Post-Doctoral Clinical Research Fellow with Harvard and Boston University.
