Marcus DeSieno is a visual artist exploring how photography continually changes and mediates our understanding of the world. DeSieno uses historicand experimental analog photographic processes in combination with contemporary imaging technologies in his work to speak to the evolution of seeing and create conversations between power and history. He often finds himself interrogating institutions of power through the language of photography, with a particular interest in documenting the ever-changing socio-political landscape of the United States as well as the unseen ideologies embedded in visual technology.

He received his MFA in Studio Art from the ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú and his BA in Photography from Marlboro College. DeSieno's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at the Aperture Foundation in New York, The Benaki Museum in Athens, Greece, The Finnish Museum of Photography in Helsinki, Finland, The Musée Albert-Kahn in Paris, France, and various other galleries and museums. His work has also been featured in a variety of publications including The British Journal of Photography, The Boston Globe, Hyperallergic, Huffington Post, National Geographic, PDN, Slate, Smithsonian Magazine, The Washington Post, and Wired. His first monograph, No Man's Land: Views from a Surveillance State, was published by Daylight Books.

DeSieno has spent the last eight years running the photography program at Central Washington University, where he was an Associate Professor of Photography. While there, he grew the photography area exponentially, oversaw one of the largest gang darkrooms in the Pacific Northwest, and was able to create the school’s first digital print lab and lighting studio. His students at CWU exhibited nationally and internationally, interned at organizations like the Magnum Photo Agency, and received accolades like the coveted Society for Photographic Education’s Innovation in Imaging award. DeSieno was also the coordinator of the school’s graduate MFA program in studio art.
